Portland Bill Lighthouse
Typography, Brand Identity
This story is of my journey to Portland Bill Lighthouse and my exploration of the Fresnel Lens light.
I designed a typeface inspired by the “lighthouse’s soul” – the Fresnel Lens. The concept of the sleeve is to illustrate and celebrate light.

The principle of Fresnel Lens is the inspiration and concept behind my design.
The lens was able to send the light on a journey of many miles, to communicate with sailors in order to save their lives. I also evaluated the angle, direction and whether to change the optic to suit a typeface.

The design of the belly band is based on the colour of the lighthouse building and its application to encase the folded paper, the size to match the half of the Fresnel Lens’ height. The sunlight rays into a powerful and parallel beam as the concept illustrates perfect mathematics, science and technology.
